Tornado Reports 2010

After a slow/nearly non-existent start to the severe weather season, Mother Nature is now starting to make up for lost time. Check out the reports so far this year.

Nearly every month so far this year has been below normal when it comes to tornadoes..except for January and April. April tornadoes are still being tallied but it appears that we’ll finish the month  with atleast 197 tornadoes. May so far has been somewhat active with 23 reports. By the end of the month we should have 305, which would mean we should average 25 a day. But, as you would know, May typically sees a stretch of active weather and then some quiet weather and then a return of active weather. So, the 23 reports right now does not surprise me.What does surprise me is this following graphic..

Our year to date tornado report has us just shy of 300 reports. Our average should put us at 572. That means we are down about 50% for the year. Let’s not brag about this number until the end of June and see where we are then..
