Hail Capital of the World

When it comes to severe weather, no one gets it worse than The Central Plains. If you’re keeping track at home on which state has had the most hail reports so far this year, then the graph above will easily tell you. Including yesterday’s monster hail storm in Oklahoma, we now rank 4th in the nation when it comes to hail reports. Kansas is number one, Texas number 2 and Arkansas is number 3. What amazes me about this stat is that I would have expected Texas to be in the lead, given its large coverage of land compared to others. But, that has not been the case. For the month of May, Oklahoma is in 2nd place when it comes to hail, trailing Kansas by about 30. So, if you’re keeping track, then Kansas holds the title of hail capital of the world… for now.
