Update: Tropics

It’s been a little while since we last paid close attention to what’s going on in The Gulf. After Hurricane Alex, things got somewhat quiet other than the tropical depression that formed off the Mexican Coast. But, things may be changing some in the next few days.

There are 2 areas of convection in the region, with the eastern most one being of biggest concern of possibly forming into a tropical depression in the next day or 2. “Bonnie” would be the name should it become a storm. And, if past history is any indicator of future performance, then this tropical system is prime for development.

We will be watching closely… even if it does not turn into a named storm, the system itself will continue to move west and eventually into The Gulf of Mexico. If the associated tropical environment moves into Oklahoma, then we could be talking about a stormy weather pattern next week.
