Oklahoma August: Hot & Dry!

August 2010 in Oklahoma will go down as hot and dry! Shocker! And, it wasn’t just here, it was basically everywhere in The United States. According to NOAA, the USA recorded its 4th warmest summer on record with a nation wide average temperature of 75 degrees, which was 2.2 degrees above the 1901­­ ­ ­ – 2000 average. The average nation wide precipitation was 2.41 inches, which was .19 inches below normal. Here is how each state handled August temperatures:

It was the 15th warmest August on record for Oklahoma, compared to the entire southeast which saw this August as one of the warmest on record. For Oklahoma City, the average temperature was 85.1 degrees (which takes into account both highs and lows), or 3.9 degrees above normal. Rain was very hard to find this month, only 0.48 inches fell, or 2.00 inches below normal.

It was the 32nd driest August for Oklahoma on record.
