Stormy Friday Ahead

We continue to watch that storm system in the Southwest headed our way. While storms are expected in Western Oklahoma late Thursday and through Central Oklahoma Friday morning, our attention is now focused on Friday afternoon.

Storms Friday morning are expected to diminish by mid-morning. The big question is whether another round of storms will develop Friday afternoon. Looking at the latest models, most do initiate storms again in Central and Eastern Oklahoma Friday afternoon. If these storms get going, they’ll develop in a conditionally unstable environment. Mid-level westerly winds will help to enhance shear in the 40-50kt variety. Supercell thunderstorms will be possible with large hail and damaging winds the main threats. While I do not anticipate any tornado activity at this time, given the conditions it looks like we will have, it cannot be completely ruled out. Outside of the severe weather risk, the rain we will see certainly is needed.
