Oklahoma Snow?

During the summer months, our biggest forecasting challenge usually comes from trying to figure out how far a cold front will move towards Oklahoma. Now, we don’t question that as much as we question, how far will the freezing line move into Oklahoma. And come late this week, it may be just far enough that some could some snow. Where exactly? Here is what I project the surface map looking a lot like by Friday.

First, I would not count on snow for Oklahoma City. The cold air won’t sag that far south. For now, it looks like The Oklahoma Panhandle could see a rain/snow mix, and possibly change over to all snow for a short time. However, looking at the weather model data, some models are showing that the cold air may have trouble moving into The Panhandle. Either or, we’ll keep it in for now, just barely…and continue to watch closely. As for rain, it looks like a good bet for Thursday and Friday here in Oklahoma. And, for November standards, we may see a good deal of it. Enough to help with the drought in a big way!
