A Messy Monday For Some….A Cold Monday For All

The start of the long advertised cold snap is here, along with some snow in the state.  I’m tracking two different storm systems affecting Oklahoma.  The first storm brought heavy snow to southeast Oklahoma, and lighter snow to other parts of the state.  That storm is headed east and will become a major snow and ice storm for the southeast United States.  I just read where one county in Alabama was closing all of its roads as of 6 pm to make sure people stayed home.

The second storm will bring more snow to Oklahoma later tonight into Monday.  This time the heaviest snow will fall in north where 2-4 inches will fall from the panhandle through about the northern quarter of the state.  The OKC metro area will also see some snow through the day, although amounts will be an inch or less.  That’s still enough to cause some slippery travel, so use caution.

In addition to the snow, we can expect the coldest air of the season to arrive on Monday.  Temps will range from the teens in the panhandle to the 30s central and south.  The arctic cold front will arrive in OKC by late afternoon with increasing winds and falling temps.

Tuesday through Thursday will be dry but very cold with highs only in the 20s and 30s, and lows in the single digits and teens.  Expect a moderation in temperatures Friday and Saturday with highs in the 40s, but another cold front could arrive by next Sunday.

Don’t forget to look for me on Twitter. I’m kocoweather.  Don’t worry, I don’t send updates about what I just had for lunch or anything like that.  Just weather info 🙂
