Updated Thoughts On Our Next Storm

New models are coming in this evening with no major changes regarding the handling of our next storm system.  It still looks like Wednesday will remain dry during the day.  Snow will begin to affect far northern Oklahoma late Wednesday evening, spreading south through the night and into Thursday morning.  I expect snow to reach OKC around 2 or 3 am Thursday.  It may start off as a period of freezing rain and sleet before turning over to a few hours of snow.

Because of the fairly rapid movement of the system, precip amounts will be light.  I do not expect enough freezing rain to cause power line problems, but slippery roads are likely Thursday morning.  In fact the morning drive in OKC could be pretty slow.  The snow and ice will be over with by noon Thursday, with some sunshine returning for the afternoon.  Despite any sunshine, Thursday will be very cold with highs only in the 20s and 30s with wind chills in the teens and single digits.

The heaviest snow with this system will be in northern Oklahoma where up to 2-4 inches is possible.  Here’s my latest snowfall prediction:

Rusty will have more information bright and early Wednesday morning starting at 4:30 on Eyewitness News 5.  I’ll keep you updated as well.  Look for me on Twitter at kocoweather.

  1. I have given up hope for January. Any chance for snowy February?
