A Mixed Bag of Winter Weather

The weather will take a turn by this evening as winter weather moves into Oklahoma. As is typical, we are always making tweaks to our forecast, however, the overall thinking hasn’t changed much. as we anticipating, there is now a Winter Weather Advisory in effect for most of the state. It’s starts tonight at 8:00pm for Northern Oklahoma and at midnight for Central and Southern Oklahoma (including the metro). It goes until 1:00pm on Thursday.

Here’s the storm timeline for the metro….

Notice it will be a quick transition from rain to ice to snow here in the metro. How much ice we get will determine how severe this winter storm will be for us. I do expect some travel problems on Thursday morning.

A light mix will start tonight in norther parts of the state. That mix will turn over to snow by midnight. The biggest problems will be in the area of the state in pink Thursday morning, where a light glaze to a 1/4″ of ice may fall. Light snow will then top the ice though mid-morning. 1-3″ of snow is expected in places such as Alva, Cherokee, Medford, Ponca City and Enid.

I would already plan on giving yourselves extra drive time on Thursday morning. Watch the kids at the bus stop as well. This is winter storm is a fast mover, and will be out of the state by late morning.
