HI-RES Images of Fires

The following image was taken yesterday afternoon from MODIS (MODERATE-RESOLUTION IMAGING SPECTRORADIOMETER) as it passed across The United States. This is one of the highest resolution satellite images that we can get. It shows great detail in clouds, but can also show us the surface of the earth, and places where fires have burned. You’ll have to either click on the image and blow it up, or go to this link ( http://ge.ssec.wisc.edu/modis-today/  And while most of Oklahoma had thin cirrus clouds yesterday, there were a few breaks during the time of the satellite pass where you could easily see the burn scars from the fires on Friday. I tried to highlight the areas for you to see. It’ll be interesting when we get a crystal clear day, how large the burn scars really are.
