Oklahoma Tornadoes

It should be no surprise to anyone that May is the peak of our tornado month? But, just how much of an increase in tornado reports do we usually see here in Oklahoma during the month of May? Turns out..a lot!

We see our tornado reports from April to May nearly double, and then as we head into June, a sharp decline with most of those tornado reports coming in the first few days of the month. Will this year go according to what is “normal”? Probably not since the state recorded 28 tornado reports during the month of April. And, if you look at the rest of the year, we see our average monthly tornado count drop considerably. So, when can we expect to see our next severe weather event? It may not be until next week, and even so, the models are not all that confident.

Tuesday/Wednesday could be severe weather days. But this far out, much can and will change. Time to play the waiting game…
