Summer Arrives!

This Tuesday, at 12:16 PM, Oklahomans will be celebrating the official start of the summer season. At this time, the earth will be titled in a manner that will allow the sun to reach it’s highest point in the sky for those in The Northern Hemisphere. At this very moment, the sun will have an altitude of 78° above the horizon and allow the day to be exactly 14 hours 33 minutes and 31 seconds long. Solar noon will occur at 1:32 pm.

After 12:16 PM, the sun will “stand still” or so it will seem before it begins to travel farther south on the horizon as the earth begins to tilt again making our days get shorter and shorter starting on the 22nd. June 22nd will see 1 less second of daylight than June 21st.
