Cue Up The Winds…

Get ready for those Oklahoma winds to come “sweeping down The Plains” over the next few days . For the past few weeks/months, our winds have not been that intense simply because the weather systems moving across The United States have not been all that deep, preventing us from having any deep pressure gradients. But, that will be changing this week as the winds start to kick up starting late Tuesday and remaining with us until atleast Friday and Saturday.

Obviously, with the drought as bad as it is, the fire danger will be extremely high, despite the added humidity for late week. Winds at about 1500 meters/4900 ft. above the ground will be in excess of 55 knots. 65 mph which could translate to sustained winds around 40 mph in Western Oklahoma. Unfortunately, these type of weather days may become more numerous over the next few months.
