Wet, Cold & (Possibly) Wintry Weather

Looking over the new models from this morning has me convinced we are no longer in the long, hot summer of 2011.  In fact, we are in an active pattern that will bring rain and cold to Oklahoma, as well as the potential for some snow in the coming days.  Let me try to sort it out for you:

TODAY THROUGH TONIGHT:  cloudy and cold weather will be the rule with a few showers developing later today.  Rainfall will become steadier late tonight across western Oklahoma.  Temperatures will hold steady or slowly rise through the 40s.  The only risk of any ice or sleet will be in the panhandle.

SATURDAY:  rain will overspread Oklahoma from west to east.  I believe the steadiest rain in OKC will fall from 11 am through about 7 pm.  Rainfall of a half-inch to perhaps an inch is expected.  Temperatures will be in the 40s and 50s across much of Oklahoma, except the panhandle, where highs will be in the 30s with some ice and snow.  Be careful if you have any travel plans in the panhandle tomorrow as roads could become slick and hazardous.  No travel problems are expected across the remainder of the state.

BEDLAM:  rain will fall in Stillwater for much of the afternoon with temperatures in the 40s to low 50s.  Most, if not all of the rain will end by the 7:00 pm kick-off.  However, it will be turning windy and colder as temperatures fall into the 30s, with increasing north winds of 15 to 25 mph.  Be prepared for a cold and windy game.  Bundle up!

SUNDAY:  cold with rain re-developing over southern Oklahoma during the afternoon.  This rain is in response to a new storm system approaching from the west.  Temperatures will be in the 30s and 40s.

SUNDAY NIGHT AND MONDAY:  with cold air in place over Oklahoma, and a new storm system coming in from the west, the models are now showing rain and snow developing over western Oklahoma Sunday night, and spreading into central Oklahoma by Monday morning.  Some accumulating snow is possible in western and central Oklahoma, perhaps even in OKC on Monday.

You know what’s coming next:  it’s still early and a lot can change.  Make sure you check back for updates.  Not only can you get great information off of KOCO.com, but you can also follow us on Facebook at facebook.com\oklahomaweather, and on Twitter at kocoweather.
