Drought Update

The latest drought monitor is in which takes into account last weeks rain and to be honest, I’m rather impressed here. Given the fact that we’ve been under a La Nina winter, this winter has been nice “so far”. The report of fires have been low and the amount of moisture in the soil has been higher than I expected. One week after it rained here in Oklahoma this is how it’s looking with soil moisture content:

Other than SW Oklahoma and Grant County, most of the state is finding that their soil is at or near capacity with moisture. Yes, even this meteorologist will admit that this winter has turned out tad different than I expected. Not with the temperature, I knew it would be mild, but the amount of rain has been nice. January supplied a big rain event and February looks to have a few thrown in there as well. Not to shabby Oklahoma…not too shabby.
